The only way to make a treadmill work is to dangle a donut on a string from the ceiling, level with your nose, and just a little too far to reach, then walk on the treadmill long enough for the donut to become stale so you won't eat it.

Really though, treadmills are boring, that's why you're not getting on it. I'd suggest salsa dancing with yourself for ten minutes, then walking around the block with your dogs (hey bring any pet that wants to come along). Better yet, walk a cat - that will certainly burn calories. Or, throw a frisbee with someone, or dig a hole, really anything that doesn't involve sitting or feeling like a hamster on a wheel will work. The only way to use a treadmill is to only allow yourself to watch a favorite tv program if you're walking on the treadmill. I don't suggest anything with subtitles. But anything else is good. Project Runway? Watch it from the treadmill. You don't have to go fast, just be walking when you're watching.

I'm hungry now.

I read the article, and bookmarked the link. My output/input ratio is pathetic. I find myself reaching for the clothes made with those forgiving "stretchy" fabrics more than I ever did before.

I look at my dust-covered treadmill and fake bicycle and wonder... if I take all the crap off of them (last week's laundry), will I actually make proper use of them? One can hope.
